Hey, there! Welcome to between starshine and clay, a weekly meditation on myth and culture.
My name is Jasmyne D. Gilbert (she/her/hers), and I’m a cultural mythologist and third-year graduate student researching the connections among stories, community, and social justice. This is the space where I share some of what I’ve learned.
My interdisciplinary scholarship amplifies the stories that shape, sustain, and subvert American cultures. For me, stories are sources of power and tools for critique and transformation. Merging myth, depth psychology, speculative imagination (what-if thinking), and cultural analysis, my research examines the hidden potential of narratives to inspire community-building and systemic change.
I’m also an experienced facilitator and community-builder. For fun, I write this newsletter and serve as Co-Senior Editor of the Mythological Studies Journal.
